This is my mask PSA, skip ahead to the mask details down below if you don't care about my thoughts (are they really even worth anything?) on masks:

Can you believe this is the newest, never-wanted, must-have accessory? I can't either, but I think masks are going to be something we need for a while. If you are like me, you don't want to waste money on disposable masks that will end up in a landfill somewhere, long after this pandemic is over. Masks are important for protecting each other, so why not get a couple that you can wash and reuse?

There are a lot of different masks designs available right now. This is the shape that I have tried and am comfortable wearing. It hugs my face, but is not soffocating to wear when I am out walking around or doing light duty work. My family and I wear our masks when we clean floors at night and when we have to go shopping for groceries. It is lined with cotton flannel to absorb some of the moisture from your breath. The ribbon is 4.5 feet long, and I loop it around the back of my neck and then tie it over my ears. The ribbon is grosgrain, and is quite sturdy.

This cloth mask is made of 100% cotton in a double layer.

The inner layer is made from cotton flannel.

The outer layer is made from tightly woven quilting cotton.

The ribbon is 4.5-feet long and made from 100% polyester.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Wash your mask before you wear it the first time.
  • Sterilize it after each use.
  • To sterilize your mask you can boil it for 5 minutes, or launder and dry on a high heat cycle.
  • Remember to treat your mask like underpants: don't share between friends, put a clean one on each time, don't flip it inside-out in an effort to get an extra use out of it.
